Diesel at a record high; gasoline also rose from 18 September
Diesel in Panama City hit a series high in the latest maximum-price table, and gasoline grades also rose from Friday 18 September 2026. La Prensa reported the new caps on 17 September, noting diesel’s steep climb versus early January and that August CPI already showed transport pressure—before this hike.
Maximum prices from 18 September: 95 octane US$1.39/L, 91 octane US$1.29/L, diesel US$1.53/L. Diesel is the highest in the SNE Panama City series since 2008. Year-to-date versus early January: diesel roughly +100%; 95/91 roughly +65%. August IPC already showed transport up; this mid-September hike is not yet in that print.
Commuting, school runs, interior trips, and diesel generators all get more expensive. These are maximum regulated prices—actual pumps and provincial tables can differ. A diesel series record is not the same as a 95-octane record; cross-check SNE tables for your province.
