Mine-closure study reaches Mulino's advisors. No reopen call yet

An interministerial commission has received CONEP’s study on the socio-economic impacts of closing Cobre Panamá. Officials describe the next step as analysis and advice to President Mulino—not a reopen decision.

MEF noted on 14 September that CONEP delivered the impact study. Reporting cites 17 impact groups covering growth, jobs, suppliers, public finances, exports, and environmental monitoring. The commission’s job is to analyze and advise; no restart or continuity decision has been announced. Press expects a report to Mulino in coming weeks.

Mine politics remains a major investment-climate and protest-risk signal for long-stay residents and businesses. CONEP is private-sector input, not a government conclusion—and no reopen has been announced.
