Tax filings due the 15th now wait until Monday

The Dirección General de Ingresos (DGI) moved the filing deadline that fell on Thursday 15 October to Monday 19 October. Resolution 201-8061, signed on 12 October by director Camilo A. Valdés and published in Gaceta Oficial 30633 on 13 October, extends the presentation of declarations, reports and communications that were due on the 15th. The common case for many businesses and professionals is the monthly ITBMS return for September. The same resolution pauses certain administrative clocks after DGI offices closed for the 9 October earthquake, with a longer pause in four interior provinces. The text extends presentation, not payment.

What the calendar says now

  • New filing date: Monday 19 October for declarations, informes and comunicaciones that were due Thursday 15 October (Nexo; Nexo Capital citing Resolución 201-8061 / Gaceta 30633).
  • Common case: monthly ITBMS, which DGI instructions normally set at the 15th of each month. September ITBMS presentation now lands on Monday 19 if yours was due the 15th (Nexo).
  • Nationwide admin pause: Friday 9 October only, for DGI offices that closed that day (Nexo Capital).
  • Interior pause: Coclé, Herrera, Los Santos and Veraguas provincial administrations, 9 through Friday 16 October, for recursos, requerimientos, solicitudes, citaciones and related DGI procedures (Nexo; Nexo Capital).
  • Clocks resume: Monday 19 October (Nexo Capital, numeral cuarto).
  • Payment caution: the resolution talks about presenting, not paying. An ITBMS return with tax due that is filed late can carry a 10% surcharge; confirm payment timing with your accountant or DGI before assuming Monday covers the remittance (Nexo).
  • No administrative appeal on the resolution itself (Nexo Capital).

What it means for expats

  • If you run a business, freelancing setup or rental with ITBMS, treat Monday 19 October as the new presentation deadline for what was due on the 15th, and still confirm whether your payment is on a separate clock.
  • Expats with open DGI requerimientos, citaciones or recursos in Coclé, Herrera, Los Santos or Veraguas get a longer pause (through 16 October) before terms restart on the 19th. Elsewhere the office-closure pause is mainly the quake Friday.
  • Do not invent other tax deadlines from this text. Only what was due on the 15th for declarations/reports/communications is clearly moved.
  • Keep your e-Tax / DGI portal receipts; Monday is a busy catch-up day nationwide.
