Metro Line 3 hits ~77%: monorail tests begin for Panama Oeste riders

By late June 2026, Metro Line 3—the Panama Oeste monorail—reached about 77% overall progress and began dynamic train tests. President Mulino rode an inspection between the Ciudad del Futuro yards and Vista Alegre.

The elevated section was around 85% complete; the bored Canal tunnel about 90%, with under 600 meters remaining of roughly 4.5 km underground. Trains use Japanese technology: six cars, about 1,000 passengers, up to 80 km/h, with battery backup to the next station.

Phase 1 delivery was still targeted for 2027, with the full Albrook/underground phase into 2028 (per Metro date updates). A later September update put overall progress near 81%—this June figure is the earlier milestone.

For West-side residents, this is the biggest near-term transit upgrade for commuting into the capital. Progress percentages and opening years are source-dated and can change.
