Ecuadorians can now apply for Friendly Nations residency in Panama

Executive Decree No. 16 (31 August 2026), effective 1 September 2026, adds Ecuador to Panama’s Friendly Nations list. Ecuadorian nationals can now use the familiar two-year provisional path that can lead to permanent residency if eligibility is kept.

Typical options include formal employment (plus a MITRADEL work permit), buying real estate of at least US$200,000, or a three-year fixed deposit of at least US$200,000. Spouse and minor or dependent children can often be included.

Residency does not by itself authorize work—you still need a separate work permit. Confirm current Migración requirements before you file; this is a pathway announcement, not a DIY filing kit.
