CSS starts calling employers over more than B/.300 million in unpaid quotas

Panama’s Caja de Seguro Social launched a nationwide employer outreach and collection campaign on Monday, 21 September 2026, through Contact Center 199. The agency aims to recover overdue worker–employer social-security quotas that amount to about B/.300 million.

Official CSS figures for end-June 2026 put the delinquent portfolio at B/.301.9 million across 29,148 employers, up from B/.279.4 million in December 2025. Quota collection still rose 6.9% in the first half of 2026 to B/.2,245.7 million, but CSS says 78% of the recent rise in arrears is concentrated in ten public-sector employers — including Universidad Autónoma de Chiriquí (UNACHI) at about B/.11 million. Provincia Panamá holds about 65% of national arrears (~B/.196.7 million).

Pay via online banking, Mi Caja Digital, or CSS agencies. Staff never ask for passwords, card data, or transfers to personal accounts.

What it means for daily life: Household employers, small businesses, and payroll workers should watch quota status and coverage continuity — and treat unexpected payment requests by phone as scam risks while CSS dials out.
