CSS lets more GPs prescribe key meds. 2027 drug budget still unsettled

CSS is expanding which medicines primary-care doctors may prescribe—including some previously limited to specialists (reporting has cited examples such as dapagliflozin). Separately, a draft 2027 medicines budget sits lower than 2026. That budget figure is not enacted law.

Reporting puts the draft 2027 medicines appropriation at about US$230.3 million versus US$322.8 million in 2026 (−28.6%), while CSS’s total budget is roughly +3.6%. CSS cites volume and “precio único” planning for 2027; patient groups warn about shortages. Treat the prescribing expansion and the appropriation fight as two different stories.

If you use CSS for chronic care, wider primary-care prescribing may mean fewer specialist waits for some drugs—but 2027 stock levels still depend on a draft budget fight. This is not medical advice.
