Mulino vetoes extra retiree discounts—current Ley 6 benefits stay
On 20 September 2026, President Mulino issued a total veto of Bill 226, which would have expanded retiree and pensioner discounts under Law 6 of 1987. Existing Ley 6 benefits were not repealed.
Grounds cited included inconveniencia and inexequibilidad, while acknowledging the social purpose. The same day brought a partial objection to Proyecto 594 (nine articles). Bill 226 returns to the Asamblea; current Ley 6 discounts remain in force.
Many Pensionado and long-stay readers track senior discounts at shops, restaurants, and services. An expansion will not take effect under this veto; what you already use under Ley 6 continues unless separately changed. Distinguish the total veto of 226 from the partial objection to 594.
