Rental deposits in Panama City: what I budgeted the first time

When I rented my first place in Panama City I underestimated the cash needed up front. Most landlords here want first month + last month + a deposit (often one month). Furnished places sometimes ask for a small inventory checklist fee too. If you are coming from a country where deposits are smaller, this can feel steep. What helped me: - Ask clearly what is refundable and what is not before you sign. - Take dated photos on move-in day (walls, appliances, water pressure). - Get the inventory list in writing, even if it is informal. - Confirm whether utilities stay in the landlord name or switch to yours. I am still in the city after three years. Happy to compare notes if you are negotiating your first lease.
